DHI hair transplant — Just Clinic Istanbul

As of September 2026, the indicative DHI hair transplant cost in Turkey on this page is 3,300-5,000 EUR per session. The defined plan uses graft harvesting and DHI or Choi implanter placement, with graft number, donor capacity, anaesthesia and aftercare confirmed after assessment.

Each month, Just Clinic Istanbul collects current prices / costs for DHI hair transplant procedures from 30 hospitals randomly selected from our partner network, listed on our Hospitals page. We compare equivalent treatment plans and publish the lowest and highest reported prices as a minimum–maximum range. They are a neutral, objective reference, not the price of a single hospital or clinic and not a personal offer from Just Clinic Istanbul.

The final written quote can vary with clinical complexity, technique, anaesthesia, facility arrangements, tests, medication, aftercare and follow-up. Anything not named in the written scope is outside the price. One provider offer on file lists sedation when clinically appropriate after assessment, necessary pre- and post-operative medication, PRP, scalp ozone and laser therapy, a professional first wash with medical foam, an orthopaedic neck pillow, and vitamins, shampoo, lotion and serum; these are not universal inclusions.

DHI means direct hair implantation. In the defined plan on this page, individual follicular grafts are harvested from the donor area using FUE and placed into thinning or balding scalp areas with a DHI or Choi implanter. FUE describes how the grafts are taken; DHI describes the implantation approach. The surgeon still has to diagnose the cause of hair loss and design the hairline, density and recipient areas.

A hair transplant redistributes existing follicles. It cannot create new follicles or guarantee a particular density, hairline or final appearance. The treating hospital or clinic handles appointments and communication and arranges practical services only where listed in the written offer; the hair-restoration clinician is responsible for diagnosis, donor assessment, consent and treatment.

A transplant may be considered by people with a diagnosis of permanent pattern hair loss and enough suitable donor hair for the proposed coverage. The consultation should examine the pattern and progression of loss, donor density, hair texture, contrast between hair and skin, the size of the recipient area, previous procedures, general health, medicines, smoking and expectations.

Not every type of hair loss is suitable for transplantation. Hair loss with a different cause, such as patchy alopecia areata, needs appropriate medical assessment before a cosmetic transplant is considered. If hair loss is still progressing, the design should account for possible future thinning around the transplanted area rather than treating one photograph as the whole long-term plan.

The graft number is personal and should follow the donor examination and the agreed recipient areas. A “high graft count” or unlimited graft promise is not part of this session guide, and more grafts are not automatically safer or more suitable.

  • Diagnosis and design: the clinician reviews the cause of hair loss, maps the donor and recipient areas and agrees a realistic hairline and coverage goal.
  • FUE harvesting: individual follicular grafts are removed from a suitable hair-bearing donor area rather than taking a strip of scalp.
  • Graft preparation: the harvested grafts are handled and prepared for placement, with attention to their follicular structure and the planned recipient area.
  • DHI implantation: grafts are loaded into an implanter pen and placed in selected scalp positions. Direction, angle and distribution are clinical decisions, not a standard number for every patient.

The treatment plan may differ for the hairline, temples, mid-scalp or crown. A second session, an additional body area or a separate procedure should be assessed and itemised rather than assumed to be included in one DHI session.

Hair transplant treatment usually takes a full day. It is generally performed with local anaesthesia, sometimes with sedation, so the scalp can be numbed while you remain under clinical observation. The exact time depends on the number and type of grafts, the donor and recipient areas, the team and the agreed technique.

An overnight hospital stay is not usually needed for a standard hair transplant, but the discharge plan depends on the facility, your health and the procedure. Arrange transport or an accompanying adult if advised after sedation. The written quote should identify the clinician, extraction and implantation scope, anaesthesia, facility, dressings or spray, prescribed medication and follow-up.

Plan around the consultation, hairline design, the session, discharge instructions and an early review if recommended. Keep your return travel and schedule flexible. You should not plan strenuous exercise, a crowded sightseeing programme or activities that rub the grafts during the early recovery period.

Bring your medical history, medication and supplement list, allergy information and details of previous hair treatments. Ask how to sleep, wash the hair, protect the recipient area and contact the team from home. Flights, extra nights, travel insurance and a companion’s costs are separate unless expressly included in writing.

  • Share the history and pattern of your hair loss, previous procedures, medical conditions, allergies, medicines, supplements and smoking or nicotine use.
  • Ask whether the diagnosis requires medical treatment or a period of observation before transplantation, especially if the loss is patchy or changing quickly.
  • Confirm the planned donor and recipient areas, hairline design, estimated graft range and whether shaving or a particular haircut is required.
  • Follow the clinician’s instructions about washing, alcohol, smoking, fasting and medicines. Do not stop prescribed treatment without medical advice.
  • Arrange transport or an accompanying adult if sedation is used, and prepare a clean, comfortable place to sleep with your head protected as instructed.
  • Confirm how to use the spray or medication, when gentle washing begins, how to protect the grafts and how follow-up works after you return home.

The scalp may feel tight, sore or swollen for a few days. Temporary scabbing can appear in the recipient area, and small scars may be visible in the donor area after FUE. Your surgeon will tell you how to use the spray, wash the scalp and avoid touching or rubbing the grafts. The transplanted grafts are not secure during the first two weeks, so protect them carefully.

You may need around 1–2 weeks off work, and strenuous exercise may need to be reduced during the first month. Transplanted hair commonly sheds after a few weeks before new growth begins. New hair often starts to appear after around four months, while the full result may take 10–18 months. These are general milestones, not a guarantee or a substitute for your clinician’s review.

Hair loss can continue around the transplant. Long-term planning may therefore include monitoring or medical treatment, but long-term medication is outside this price guide unless expressly written into a separate plan. A transplant does not stop every future change in the untreated hair.

Possible problems include bleeding, infection, anaesthetic reaction, swelling, pain, scarring, temporary numbness, inflammation around a follicle, grafts not growing as expected, noticeable scarring and ongoing thinning. Contact the surgical team promptly for severe or worsening pain, heavy bleeding, fever, spreading redness, pus, marked swelling or another unexpected symptom.

These notes answer questions people raise before they accept a written treatment plan. They describe what that plan should make clear. They are not a promise that any partner hospital uses a particular technique, device or payment arrangement. With your consent, an enquiry may be shared with an authorised healthcare partner.

How much donor hair can safely be taken, and what reserve should remain?

The permanent donor zone is the hair at the back and sides that resists pattern loss. Capacity is not a follicle count per square centimetre on its own. Hair calibre, curl, the contrast between hair and scalp, and how much of that zone may later be exposed all belong in the written plan. Taking more than that zone can thin the donor area and make the small round FUE marks easier to see. A high graft slogan does not measure the reserve that is left. Source: ISHRS position statement on physician practice.

Why is FUE, an implanter pen, or another approach being proposed?

ISHRS treats taking tissue from the donor area and making the recipient sites as separate surgical steps. FUE describes removing grafts one by one from the back or sides. DHI, or a Choi implanter, describes how a prepared graft is placed. It is not a second operation that replaces FUE. The written plan should name the harvest instrument and the placement instrument separately. Source: ISHRS position statement on physician practice.

Who will diagnose, design, harvest, make the sites, place the grafts and follow up?

The ISHRS board statement revised on 13 July 2024 says that diagnosis, planning, donor harvesting, hairline design, recipient-site creation, management of medical problems and aftercare are to be done by a licensed physician trained in hair restoration. In some countries a physician assistant or nurse practitioner may work within the limits of that licence and under that physician’s supervision. ISHRS regards a surgical step performed by an unlicensed person as unethical. Graft placement is not a separate bullet in that list, so the written plan still has to name who places the grafts. Ongoing loss of your own hair does not cancel the transplant, and longer-term medical follow-up should be written down as well. Source: ISHRS position statement on physician practice.

Does DHI mean I will not need to shave my hair?

No. DHI describes an implantation approach and does not determine whether donor or recipient hair is shaved. In FUE-based DHI, the donor area may be fully shaved, partly shaved or left unshaven; recipient hair may also be shaved or left long depending on the plan. Unshaven FUE is technically demanding, so ask the surgeon which areas will be trimmed and why. ISHRS guide to shaving options and ISHRS guide to hair-transplant surgery.

Can existing hair shed after DHI, separately from transplanted grafts?

Yes. Existing hairs in the recipient area can shed after surgery (sometimes called shock loss), separately from the expected shedding of transplanted shafts. DHI describes placement after graft harvesting and does not prevent native hairs from shedding. The pattern and duration vary; contact your treating team if the loss worries you so they can assess it and explain follow-up. Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery review.

The following is an example of wording in a hair-transplant certificate issued by Estethica. The graft-count placeholder is left blank, as it is in the supplied document:

With your consent and acceptance of the operation, your hair transplant operation was performed with ........ grafts and the operation got completed. As long as you fully fulfill all procedures correctly before and after surgery, you will not experience loss of any graft implanted. We guarantee that the number of grafts implanted are accurate and that the implanted hair will grow in a healthy way.

This quotation reproduces Estethica’s document wording and its statement is conditional on following the procedures before and after surgery. It is the issuer’s wording, not a guarantee by Just Clinic Istanbul or an unnamed clinic. It does not show that this certificate is included with, or applies to, any package discussed on this page. The supplied certificate does not state lifetime cover, a refund or free repeat surgery.

Frequently asked questions about cost

How much does a DHI hair transplant cost in Turkey in 2026? +

The editorial guide range on this page is 3,300–5,000 EUR per session as of September 2026. The graft plan, donor supply, recipient areas and written inclusions determine the personal quote.

What is included in this DHI hair transplant plan? +

The defined scope is one session using FUE to harvest grafts and a DHI/Choi implanter to place them into the scalp. The graft number is personalised; unlimited grafts and a second session are not included.

Is DHI the same as FUE? +

They describe different steps. FUE refers to harvesting individual grafts from the donor area, while DHI refers to placing prepared grafts with an implanter. The clinician confirms the suitable approach for your scalp.

Am I suitable for a DHI hair transplant? +

Suitability depends on the cause and stability of hair loss, donor density and quality, the recipient area, general health, medicines, expectations and the clinician’s examination. Patchy or unexplained loss needs appropriate assessment first.

How long does a DHI hair transplant take? +

A hair transplant usually takes a full day and is commonly performed under local anaesthesia, sometimes with sedation. The time depends on the graft plan and the donor and recipient areas.

When can I return to work after a DHI transplant? +

You may need around 1–2 weeks off work, depending on your role and recovery. The grafts need careful protection for the first two weeks and activity should follow the clinician’s instructions.

When will the transplanted hair grow? +

Transplanted hair often sheds after a few weeks. New growth commonly starts after around four months and the full result may take 10–18 months, but individual growth cannot be guaranteed.
