Gastric balloon — Just Clinic Istanbul

As of September 2026, the provider-programme example on this page is approximately 2,800 EUR for an endoscopically placed and removed gastric balloon programme in Turkey. The defined example includes the device, endoscopy, planned removal and a 12-month dietitian programme, subject to the written plan. This is not a binding Just Clinic offer, a verified market average or a guarantee that every provider uses the same device or package.

Each month, Just Clinic Istanbul collects current prices / costs for gastric balloon procedures from 30 hospitals randomly selected from our partner network, listed on our Hospitals page. We compare equivalent treatment plans and publish the lowest and highest reported prices as a minimum–maximum range. They are a neutral, objective reference, not the price of a single hospital or clinic and not a personal offer from Just Clinic Istanbul.

The final price can be affected by the device and duration, endoscopy and anaesthesia arrangements, tests, medication, dietitian follow-up, hospital care, hotel nights, transfers, early removal or additional treatment. A swallowable Allurion device, second balloon, extended follow-up and complication treatment are outside this guide and should be itemised separately.

An intragastric or gastric balloon is a temporary weight-management device placed inside the stomach through the mouth using an endoscope. Once filled, it occupies space and can help you feel full sooner and manage portions. It is not bariatric surgery and it does not guarantee weight loss: lasting results depend on nutrition, activity, behaviour and follow-up after the device is removed.

With your consent, an enquiry may be shared with authorised healthcare partners. The named provider is responsible for assessment, treatment, the clinical plan and any arrangements in the written offer.

The programme example on this page is for an endoscopically placed balloon that is removed endoscopically after a device-specific period of 6–12 months. It includes the balloon/device, endoscopy, planned removal and a 12-month dietitian programme, subject to the individual written plan. The brand and the 6- or 12-month duration must be confirmed before treatment.

A swallowable Allurion device is not the same programme. It has a different insertion and removal pathway and must not be assumed to be included in this guide. A second balloon, extended follow-up and treatment of a complication are also separate matters unless expressly listed.

A gastric balloon may be considered for some adults who need structured help with weight management and who are willing to follow a nutrition, activity and follow-up programme. The medical team should review your health, BMI, weight-related conditions, previous stomach or oesophageal surgery, eating patterns, medicines, anaesthetic risk and ability to attend follow-up.

It is not suitable for everyone who is overweight. The team may recommend another approach or delay treatment if a condition, medication, previous operation, eating disorder, pregnancy, anaesthetic concern or inability to complete follow-up increases the risk. The assessment should also explain what happens if the balloon is not tolerated or needs early removal.

  • Assessment: the clinician reviews your medical history, weight-management goals, medicines and any previous upper gastrointestinal problems.
  • Endoscopic placement: while you are sedated or under the anaesthesia agreed with the team, a deflated balloon is passed through the mouth and positioned in the stomach using an endoscope.
  • Filling and observation: the balloon is filled according to the device instructions and you remain under observation before discharge criteria are met.
  • Structured follow-up: dietitian support helps you progress your diet, manage symptoms and build habits during the device period and after removal.
  • Planned removal: the balloon is emptied and removed through a later endoscopic procedure at the agreed 6- or 12-month point, unless the clinical team advises otherwise.

The device is a tool, not a substitute for an individual weight-management plan. Do not delay removal beyond the device instructions, and do not arrange a second balloon without a new clinical assessment.

Balloon placement itself may take around 30 minutes, although preparation, sedation or anaesthesia and recovery take longer. It is commonly an outpatient endoscopy procedure. You may go home after observation when the team confirms that it is safe, but the actual stay depends on the facility, your symptoms and the anaesthetic plan.

Removal is a separate endoscopic procedure and needs its own appointment and recovery advice. The written quote should identify the device, placement and removal endoscopies, sedation or anaesthesia, hospital fees, tests, medication, dietitian appointments, planned checks and the discharge criteria.

Arrange your trip around assessment, placement, early symptom review and travel clearance. The removal visit must also be planned before the device's maximum duration is reached; do not assume that removal can be completed in your home country without arranging clinical handover.

Keep return flights flexible, especially during the first days when nausea or vomiting may occur. Bring your medical history and medication list, follow the fasting instructions and do not plan strenuous activity or a tightly scheduled sightseeing programme while you are recovering. Flights, hotel rooms and a companion's travel are separate unless expressly included.

  • Share your medical history, BMI and weight-related conditions, previous stomach or oesophageal surgery, medicines, supplements, allergies and any problems with sedation or anaesthesia.
  • Tell the team about reflux, ulcers, abdominal pain, vomiting, swallowing difficulties, bleeding, pregnancy, eating-disorder symptoms or another gastrointestinal concern before the assessment.
  • Confirm the device brand, insertion and removal dates, fasting instructions, medication plan, diet stages, follow-up appointments and the emergency contact route.
  • Follow instructions about smoking, alcohol, food, drink, medicines and supplements. Never stop a prescribed medicine without clinical advice.
  • Arrange an adult to accompany you after sedation when advised, help with luggage and support you during the first days.
  • Plan how you will continue nutrition, activity and dietitian support after removal; the balloon alone cannot guarantee lasting weight loss.

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, reflux, discomfort and dehydration are common early concerns while the stomach adapts. The team may prescribe medication and a staged progression from clear liquids to soft foods and then regular foods. Follow the individual plan rather than copying a timetable from another patient.

Drink and eat only as advised, attend the dietitian appointments and keep the removal date visible. Weight loss varies and weight can return after removal if long-term dietary, activity and behavioural changes are not maintained. Do not resume strenuous activity or travel against clinical advice.

Possible complications include ulceration, bleeding, perforation of the stomach or oesophagus, pancreatitis, balloon deflation or overinflation, migration, intestinal obstruction, infection and anaesthetic complications. Contact the medical team urgently about persistent vomiting, inability to keep fluids down, severe or increasing abdominal pain, fever, black stools, a swollen abdomen, fainting, breathing difficulty or another unexpected symptom.

How much does a gastric balloon cost in Turkey in 2026?
The page shows approximately 2,800 EUR for a single provider-programme example as of September 2026. It is not a verified market average or a binding Just Clinic offer; the device, duration and written inclusions affect the final price.

What is included in the 2,800 EUR gastric balloon programme?
The defined example includes an endoscopically placed balloon, endoscopy, planned endoscopic removal and a 12-month dietitian programme, subject to the written plan. Confirm the brand, device duration, medication, tests, hotel and transfers in writing.

Is a swallowable Allurion balloon included?
No. A swallowable Allurion device is a different programme and is outside this guide. It should not be assumed to have the same placement, removal, follow-up or price.

How long does a gastric balloon stay in place?
The defined plan allows a device-specific period of 6–12 months. The team must confirm the exact duration and arrange removal before the device's maximum approved period is reached.

Am I suitable for a gastric balloon in Turkey?
Suitability depends on your health, BMI, weight-related conditions, previous upper gastrointestinal surgery, medicines, anaesthetic risk, eating patterns, expectations and commitment to follow-up. The treating team decides after assessment.

What is recovery like after a gastric balloon?
Nausea, vomiting, cramps, reflux and discomfort can occur during the first days. Your team will provide medication and a staged diet; seek urgent advice if symptoms are severe, persistent or prevent you keeping fluids down.

Are flights and hotel included in the gastric balloon price?
Only if expressly listed. Check the written programme for placement and removal, sedation or anaesthesia, tests, medication, dietitian support, hotel nights, transfers, follow-up and companion costs.

“Gastric balloon” can describe more than one device pathway. An endoscopic balloon is placed and later removed using an endoscope. A swallowable balloon follows a different placement and exit pathway. They are not interchangeable, and a price for one does not prove the inclusion of the other. The written plan should name the device, placement method, intended duration, removal or exit plan, follow-up and the route for urgent advice.

The current endoscopic Medsil/Stella package and swallowable Allurion package have different devices and pathways. This guide is not a promise that every price includes the same device, dietitian programme, hotel, removal, tests or complication care. Compare only like with like and request the same written breakdown for each option.

Temporary does not mean risk-free. Nausea, vomiting, reflux, pain, dehydration and device-specific complications can require medical assessment. The FDA has issued safety communications about liquid-filled intragastric balloons, including spontaneous over-inflation and acute pancreatitis. Ask which symptoms require urgent local care, who is available after you return home, and how a device problem or early removal would be managed.

A balloon is not bariatric surgery and does not permanently reduce the stomach. It may not be appropriate for everyone, especially where symptoms, prior surgery or the desired treatment effect point to another approach. Surgical sleeve, bypass and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) are distinct pathways that require separate assessment.

These notes answer questions people raise before they accept a written treatment plan. They describe what that plan should make clear. They are not a promise that any partner hospital uses a particular technique, device or payment arrangement. With your consent, an enquiry may be shared with an authorised healthcare partner.

Why am I a candidate for this weight-loss procedure, and how do other illnesses change the choice?

Diabetes, sleep apnoea, blood pressure, medicines, earlier treatment and whether long-term follow-up is realistic have to be written for the person. A sleeve, a bypass, a balloon and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty are not the same assessment. ASMBS describes ESG as an endoscopic option for selected adults who have not lost enough weight with lifestyle measures and medication, who are not ready for surgery, or whose surgical risk is higher. In most of that data the primary range is a BMI of 30–40, and a case outside it needs a separate written reason. ESG does not produce the same weight or metabolic effect as a sleeve or a bypass. A balloon does not take the place of that surgical assessment. Source: ASMBS ESG FAQ.

How do reflux or a hiatal hernia change the choice of sleeve, bypass, ESG or balloon?

Marked reflux or a hiatal hernia does not pass through the same door for a sleeve as it does for a volume-restricting balloon or ESG. A sleeve can increase reflux. In severe reflux, a bypass is discussed separately. Reflux symptoms, and endoscopy if it is needed, should be written before a balloon or ESG is chosen. This is not a promise that every case of reflux will settle with a bypass.

If an urgent problem or a nutritional deficiency appears after I go home, who follows it and how are the costs split?

The NHS asks for lifelong blood tests to look for vitamin deficiency, and for 999 or 111 when emergency symptoms appear. Blood tests, a dietitian visit, another endoscopy and a hospital stay should not be assumed to sit inside the original package after treatment abroad. Travel insurance usually does not cover surgical complications. Sources: NHS recovery after weight-loss surgery, NHS advice on cosmetic surgery abroad.

Can weight come back after a gastric balloon is removed?

Yes, weight regain can happen after a temporary balloon programme, although it is not inevitable and the amount varies. The balloon occupies space only while it is in place, so ask before treatment what nutrition and weight-maintenance support will continue after it is removed or passes. Further medication or procedures are individual decisions, not an automatic next step. The FDA explains that gastric balloons occupy space in the stomach and that some people cannot maintain weight loss even after device treatment. Confirm the specific balloon and aftercare plan with the provider. See the FDA overview of weight-loss and weight-management devices.
