For September 2026, Gastric Balloon (Medsil/Stella) All-Inclusive Package costs 1,900 – 2,800 EUR in Turkey for the Medsil or Stella gastric-balloon scope shown on this page. The written plan should confirm the balloon type, clinic or endoscopic setting, sedation if named, first checks, medication and dietitian or dietary follow-up where included. Removal timing and extra care should only be treated as included when written.

Each month, Just Clinic Istanbul collects current prices / costs for endoscopic Medsil or Stella gastric balloon placement plans from 30 hospitals randomly selected from our partner network, listed on our Hospitals page. We compare equivalent treatment plans and publish the lowest and highest reported prices as a minimum–maximum range. They are a neutral, objective reference, not the price of a single hospital or clinic and not a personal offer from Just Clinic Istanbul.

This stay places a saline-filled balloon — Medsil or Stella as named on the paper — into the stomach through an endoscope, so you feel full on less food while it is there. It is not a sleeve with a staple line, not a bypass, not endoscopic stitching (ESG), and not a swallowable Allurion capsule that skips endoscopy. The balloon occupies space; it does not cut the stomach. How long it stays, and when it is taken out through a second endoscopy, belong on the written plan. Weight change still depends on what you drink and chew while it is in; a target kilogram is not sold at a fixed fee.

The written plan should identify whether the balloon is Medsil or Stella, who performs endoscopic placement, the sedation plan, how long the device is intended to remain, and the later removal plan.

Teams usually consider adults whose BMI sits in a range where a temporary balloon is still honest — often when diet has not been enough and surgery is not the first step, or not yet wanted — who can accept nausea for the first days and a liquid-then-texture diet, and who will come back for removal when the paper says so. A large hiatus hernia, an active ulcer, previous stomach surgery or a need for a staple line often points to sleeve, bypass or ESG instead. If you want a balloon you swallow without an endoscope, the Allurion quote is the conversation.

The date is often postponed if an untreated stomach finding makes endoscopy less safe, if a clotting or heart issue has not been cleared, or if pregnancy is possible. Send height, weight, medicines and any recent endoscopy if you have one. Suitability is confirmed in Istanbul before anyone inflates a balloon. A sleeve “while we are there”, a bypass conversion, or a hair transplant in the same week is not assumed.

The written plan should identify the named Medsil or Stella device, pre-operative examination and tests, endoscopic placement, sedation, observation and the removal plan. The team should confirm the device-specific dwell limit.

A later removal endoscopy, extra months beyond the planned device dwell, a second balloon, additional tests or private medication require separate confirmation unless written into the plan. Placement should stop if the stomach cannot safely accommodate the planned fill.

The plan allows two to three days in Istanbul for assessment, endoscopy and time for early nausea to settle. The device’s planned dwell and later removal are separate from this visit; follow the provider’s observation and discharge advice.

Placement is through the mouth with an endoscope. Teams usually use sedation; a general anaesthetic is not assumed. It is a clinic or endoscopy-suite sitting, not a ward operation. Discharge is signed when you can keep sips down — it is not an advertising clock. Removal, months later, is a second sitting unless the contract already names it.

The first forty-eight to seventy-two hours are often nausea, cramp and a full feeling. Liquids first, then texture as written. Walk as you were shown. Desk work is often possible after a day or two if you are keeping fluids down. Fizzy drinks and large meals wait. The balloon is a tool for months, not a kilogram guarantee; when it comes out, habits have to hold or the weight can return. Vitamins or a dietitian plan sit on the paper if named.

Red flags after you leave — vomiting you cannot stop, severe pain, a temperature that persists, black stool, or breathlessness — mean a local clinician or A&E first, then your coordinator. Take the note of the device and the planned removal date with you.

These notes answer questions people raise before they accept a written treatment plan. They describe what that plan should make clear. Why am I a candidate for this weight-loss procedure, and how do other illnesses change the choice?

Diabetes, sleep apnoea, blood pressure, medicines, earlier treatment and whether long-term follow-up is realistic have to be written for the person. A sleeve, a bypass, a balloon and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty are not the same assessment. ASMBS describes ESG as an endoscopic option for selected adults who have not lost enough weight with lifestyle measures and medication, who are not ready for surgery, or whose surgical risk is higher. In most of that data the primary range is a BMI of 30–40, and a case outside it needs a separate written reason. ESG does not produce the same weight or metabolic effect as a sleeve or a bypass. A balloon does not take the place of that surgical assessment. Source: ASMBS ESG FAQ.

How do reflux or a hiatal hernia change the choice of sleeve, bypass, ESG or balloon?

Marked reflux or a hiatal hernia does not pass through the same door for a sleeve as it does for a volume-restricting balloon or ESG. A sleeve can increase reflux. In severe reflux, a bypass is discussed separately. Reflux symptoms, and endoscopy if it is needed, should be written before a balloon or ESG is chosen. This is not a promise that every case of reflux will settle with a bypass.

If an urgent problem or a nutritional deficiency appears after I go home, who follows it and how are the costs split?

The NHS asks for lifelong blood tests to look for vitamin deficiency, and for 999 or 111 when emergency symptoms appear. Blood tests, a dietitian visit, another endoscopy and a hospital stay should not be assumed to sit inside the original package after treatment abroad. Travel insurance usually does not cover surgical complications. Sources: NHS recovery after weight-loss surgery, NHS advice on cosmetic surgery abroad.

Can weight come back after a gastric balloon is removed?

Yes, weight regain can happen after a temporary balloon programme, although it is not inevitable and the amount varies. The balloon occupies space only while it is in place, so ask before treatment what nutrition and weight-maintenance support will continue after it is removed or passes. Further medication or procedures are individual decisions, not an automatic next step. The FDA explains that gastric balloons occupy space in the stomach and that some people cannot maintain weight loss even after device treatment. Confirm the specific balloon and aftercare plan with the provider. See the FDA overview of weight-loss and weight-management devices.
