What is buttock reduction and contouring?

Buttock reduction and contouring aims to reduce excess localised volume and create a more balanced outline around the buttocks. The defined plan on this page uses VASER liposuction in the buttock area. It is not a Brazilian butt lift (BBL): no fat is transferred to increase the buttocks, and no implant is used in this guide.

The surgeon assesses the distribution of fat, skin quality, asymmetry, nearby areas and your overall proportions before deciding whether the requested plan is suitable. Liposuction can change fat volume but cannot guarantee a completely smooth surface, perfect symmetry or a particular shape. Who might consider buttock reduction?

Surgeons may consider localised buttock liposuction for adults who are close to a stable weight, generally healthy and bothered by a disproportionate fat deposit that has not changed as expected with lifestyle measures. The consultation should cover your health, medicines, supplements, previous operations, smoking status, weight changes, skin laxity and the result you hope to achieve.

A buttock-reduction plan is not a treatment for obesity, cellulite or every cause of skin laxity. If the main issue is loose skin, removing fat alone may not create the desired contour and may reveal or worsen laxity. A skin-excision buttock lift is a different operation and is excluded from this price guide. Surgery may be postponed or changed if your weight is changing, a medical condition affects healing or anaesthesia, or your expectations are not realistic.

How is the contouring plan designed?

• VASER-assisted liposuction: may be used to remove selected localised fat through small incisions and refine the transition around the planned area.
• Bilateral planning: both sides are assessed together so that volume reduction and the natural differences between them are considered.
• Boundary setting: the surgeon marks the area to be treated and decides whether nearby zones should be left untouched or quoted separately.
• Skin-quality assessment: the plan takes account of elasticity, dimpling and the possibility that liposuction cannot tighten loose skin reliably.

The technique and amount removed are clinical decisions, not promises based on photographs or a package name. BBL fat transfer, buttock implants and a skin-excision buttock lift are outside the defined scope. Additional thighs, hips, back or 360-degree liposuction must be assessed and itemised separately.

Operation time, anaesthetic and hospital stay

Localised buttock liposuction often takes around 2–3 hours, although the time changes with the area, amount of fat, symmetry work and any separately agreed zones. The surgeon and anaesthetist choose the anaesthetic approach. Ask how the treatment area will be marked, what garment will be used and how pressure or sitting should be managed afterwards.

Some patients can leave on the day of surgery after observation, while others need an overnight stay according to the operation, anaesthetic and facility. The written quote should identify the hospital, monitoring, dressings, compression garment, medication, tests, planned checks and discharge criteria.

Planning your stay in Istanbul

Arrange your trip around assessment, surgery, observation, a wound or contour check and clearance to travel. UK NHS guidance advises avoiding flights for 5–7 days after procedures such as liposuction because surgery and air travel can increase blood-clot risk. Your surgeon may set a different interval, so keep return flights flexible. Flights are separate unless expressly included in the written quote.

Bring loose clothing and arrange help with luggage and transfers. Do not plan long periods of sitting, heavy lifting, gym training or a sightseeing schedule during early recovery. Ask whether the hotel, vehicle and any seat cushion are appropriate for your surgeon's instructions.

What may be included in the written package?

Ask for each service in writing rather than relying on “all-inclusive”. Depending on the plan, the quote may identify:

• bilateral buttock-area treatment and the planned VASER liposuction technique;
• the named surgeon, anaesthesia, theatre and hospital fees;
• the consultation and tests that are included;
• dressings, compression garment and medication;
• airport transfers, hotel nights and coordinator support if listed; and
• the post-operative checks and follow-up contact route.

What may be outside the price?

• return flights, travel insurance and personal spending;
• a companion's travel, meals or accommodation;
• extra hotel nights, private tests or extended hospital care unless listed;
• BBL fat transfer, buttock implants or a skin-excision buttock lift;
• additional thighs, hips, back or 360-degree liposuction; and
• care for complications outside the written agreement or after you return home.

Preparing for buttock reduction

• Share your medical history, medicines, supplements, allergies, weight changes, previous surgery, smoking status and any past problems with anaesthesia or healing.
• Explain whether you want volume reduction, a smoother transition, less projection or a change to a nearby area; bring realistic expectations about what liposuction can achieve.
• Send clear photographs if requested, while remembering that they do not replace examination, measurements or medical assessment.
• Follow instructions about smoking, alcohol, fasting, medicines and supplements. Never stop a prescribed blood thinner without clinical advice.
• Arrange help with luggage and daily tasks, and ask how to sit, sleep, walk, shower and wear the compression garment after surgery.

Recovery and follow-up

Swelling, bruising, soreness, temporary numbness and fluid collection can occur after liposuction. A compression garment may be recommended. Early movement is usually balanced with restrictions on strenuous activity and prolonged pressure on the treated area; follow the surgeon's individual instructions rather than a generic online timetable.

The contour changes as swelling settles, and final refinement may take time. Weight stability helps preserve the result, but liposuction cannot stop future weight gain or guarantee that skin will tighten. Do not plan gym training, heavy lifting, long sitting or driving until the surgical team clears you.

Possible complications include bleeding or haematoma, seroma, infection, contour irregularity, asymmetry, persistent swelling, skin or nerve changes, poor wound healing, scarring, blood clots and anaesthetic complications. Contact the surgical team promptly about severe or worsening pain, heavy bleeding, fever, increasing redness, shortness of breath, calf pain or another unexpected symptom.
