What is a temporal brow lift?

A temporal brow lift, also called a lateral brow lift, is cosmetic surgery focused on the outer third of the eyebrow and the nearby temple area. By repositioning the tissues in this area, the operation may improve a drooping outer brow and a tired or hooded appearance. It is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss treatment or a guarantee of a particular eye shape.

The aim is a measured lift that suits your facial proportions. A temporal brow lift does not automatically correct excess skin or bags on the eyelids, deep central forehead lines, laxity across the whole face or concerns that would need a full forehead lift. Who might consider a lateral brow lift?

Surgeons may consider a temporal brow lift for adults in good general health who have realistic goals and mainly notice heaviness or drooping at the outer brow. Skin elasticity, brow position, hairline, facial movement, previous surgery and the condition of the eyelids all affect whether this limited operation is appropriate.

The surgeon may suggest a different procedure or delay elective surgery if your expectations are not realistic, your health or medicines increase the anaesthetic or healing risk, you smoke and cannot follow the surgical team's advice, or another concern needs assessment first. Pregnancy, planned major weight change, active illness and unresolved eye symptoms should be discussed before arranging surgery. How is a temporal brow lift performed?

The surgeon normally marks the outer brow and temple area, makes an incision along the temporal hairline or within the scalp, releases and repositions the relevant tissues, and removes or redistributes a small amount of excess skin when appropriate.
