What is All-on-4 dental treatment?

All-on-4 uses four dental implants in one jaw to support a full-arch prosthesis for a patient with many missing or non-restorable teeth. The implants are placed in the jawbone and a temporary denture or bridge may be fitted while the implants heal. The defined plan on this page is one jaw and the temporary-prosthesis stage.

This is not a completed permanent-teeth package. The definitive bridge or denture is a later restorative stage and must be quoted separately. Who might consider All-on-4?

Patients with extensive tooth loss or teeth that cannot be predictably restored may be assessed for a fixed full-arch solution. Suitability depends on bone volume and quality, gum health, general health, smoking, diabetes control, oral hygiene, bite forces, medications, previous dental treatment and your ability to attend the restorative stages.

Implants are not suitable for everyone, and a removable denture, conventional bridge or another implant design may be more appropriate. Active gum disease, uncontrolled medical conditions, heavy smoking, severe grinding or inadequate bone may require treatment or a different plan first. A dental examination and imaging are essential before promising four implants.

How is the All-on-4 plan designed?

• Assessment and imaging: the dental team examines the teeth, gums, bite and bone and uses appropriate imaging to plan implant positions.
• Extractions if needed: non-restorable teeth may need removal, but additional extractions are outside this defined price unless expressly included.

The definitive prosthesis requires further planning, impressions or scans, fit checks and material selection. Appointments, anaesthetic and treatment time

Implant placement and a temporary prosthesis may take several hours, depending on extractions, imaging, the jaw, bone and laboratory workflow. Local anaesthesia is commonly used, with sedation or another approach considered when appropriate. The dentist must confirm whether a same-day temporary restoration is safe and achievable.

All-on-4 treatment usually involves more than one appointment or visit, particularly when the definitive restoration is made after implant healing. The written quote should identify the jaw, four implant brand and components, extractions, temporary prosthesis, imaging, anaesthesia, laboratory work, medication, reviews and the plan for the permanent restoration.

Preparing for All-on-4 treatment
