Who is breast augmentation for?

Surgeons usually consider people who want more volume, who are close to a stable weight, and whose breasts do not already sit so low that a lift is needed first. Typical reasons include a chest that has always felt small, volume lost after pregnancy or weight change, or a difference between the two sides. Cosmetic breast enlargement is not routinely NHS-funded.

The operation is often postponed if you still plan another pregnancy soon, if you hope to lose a large amount of weight, if you smoke and the team has asked you to stop, or if a long-term condition makes a long anaesthetic less safe. What the operation aims to do

Techniques used

How long the operation takes

Theatre time is usually 1 to 2 hours. A straightforward round implant can be shorter. Dual plane, anatomical implants or adding another operation can take longer. The written plan is the one that counts.

Anaesthetic

Breast augmentation is done under general anaesthetic. If a different plan is safer given your medical history, the anaesthetic team explains that before the day.

Hospital stay

You usually stay 1 night in hospital, sometimes more. That is not the same as the total time in Istanbul. A compression bra is fitted before you leave the ward.

How long to stay in Istanbul

Plan 5 to 7 days in the city. That window covers the consultation, the operation, the hospital night, the first bra check and clearance to fly. Seven to ten nights belong to other procedures, not this one. The hospital night sits inside those days; it does not replace them. Leave room for an extra night if the team asks. Discharge is signed by the surgeon — it is not an advertising date.

What to do — and not do — before surgery

What to do

• Send photographs, measurements and a clear history — pregnancies, breastfeeding, weight change, previous breast surgery — so you have a written quote before you book flights.
• Ask for brand, profile and lot on that paper. Motiva or Mentor only count if they are named.
• Arrange someone to help you in the first days. You will not want to lift children or heavy bags, or raise your arms above shoulder height.
• Follow the hospital’s fasting instructions on the day. That list comes from the ward, not from a blog.

What not to do

• Do not stop or start medicines — including blood-thinners, anti-inflammatories or supplements — on your own. The surgeon and anaesthetic team tell you what to change and when.
• Do not smoke if the team has asked you to stop. Smoking reduces blood flow in the skin and raises the risk of poor healing. How long to stop is their instruction.
• Do not book a three-day city break. Five to seven days is the protocol here.
• Do not treat this quote as a lift, as fat transfer, or as a ready-made mummy makeover. Those are other pages and other sums.

Recovery

Two timelines matter, and they are not the same.

Daily life and desk work. Many people manage short walks from the first day and return to light, desk-based work in about 1 to 2 weeks. Light activity is often 2 to 4 weeks. You wear a compression bra as instructed. Swelling, tightness and a change in nipple sensation are common. Keep your arms from lifting above the shoulder until the team says otherwise.

Full recovery and sport. Heavy lifting, gym work and strenuous sport wait longer. Most people wait about four to six weeks before harder exercise; some need longer before the team clears unrestricted training. The implants keep settling for months; the shape you see after the initial recovery is not the final one.

Your own pace depends on the pocket, your job and how you heal. Follow the written aftercare, not a generic calendar.
