What a friends hair transplant (3 people) package is

This stay is follicular-unit extraction for three adults who travel and recover together: grafts taken from each scalp donor and placed into that person’s thinning hairline, mid-scalp or crown, in the same Istanbul visit. Extraction is FUE with a small punch; sapphire or DHI sits in this stay only if that paper names it for that patient. It is three named hair sittings, not one person’s extra beard grafts, not a ladies map, and not a fourth traveller on the same paper. A graft can carry one to four hairs. There is no unlimited graft promise and no packed hairline sold at a fixed fee.

The written offer from your treating hospital or clinic should confirm the scope for this three-person hair package: each sitting named after assessment. Who extracts and who places belongs on the paper, not in a slogan. A city tour is not this medical stay.

Who this package is for

Surgeons usually consider three adult men with patterned scalp loss and a usable donor each, who can share a recovery window without one person’s timetable wrecking the others’, and who accept that each map is assessed on its own. If only one of you needs FUE, the solo hair page is the conversation. If the honest answer is a ladies sitting, that is a different quote. If the request is beard or eyebrow work, that is another paper.

Each of you is assessed on your own photographs and history. The trio date is often postponed if any of you has a racing hairline that will outrun one sitting, a donor that is already thin, or a condition that makes a long local-anaesthetic day less safe. Send daylight photographs of each scalp — front, top, sides and the donor at the back, no filter. Suitability is confirmed in Istanbul before anyone operates. If one of you is refused, this trio figure does not automatically become three solo packages.

Over-harvesting any donor to chase a packed hairline is refused; that is a clinical limit, not an upsell. An “official warranty” slogan is not this paper.

Clinic time, anaesthetic and nights in Istanbul

Plan three to five days in the city. That window covers the in-person maps for all three of you, the sittings as sequenced on the paper, the first washes and clearance to fly. Two advertising hotel nights are tight once three first-wash mornings sit on the same trip. Whether you are listed the same day or on consecutive days sits on the written plan. Leave room for an extra night if the team asks.

Each sitting is under local anaesthetic, with or without sedation, and is outpatient — not a general anaesthetic and not a ward night. A long FUE day is often four to eight hours for that person; combining three maps into one marathon list is not assumed. Discharge is signed by the team for each of you — it is not an advertising date.

Recovery after you fly home

The first weeks are scalp care for each of you: no gym sweat, no tight hat, no scratching. Sleep as you were shown so grafts are not crushed. Shock loss in weeks two to four is expected; transplanted hairs often shed before they grow. New hair is often seen around month three or four; density builds between six and twelve months toward a look that matures at twelve to eighteen months. Desk work is often possible after about a week if the surgeon agrees. None of that is a density guarantee for any of you.

Red flags after you return — spreading redness, pus, a temperature that persists, pain that is getting worse, or breathlessness — mean a local clinician or A&E first, then your coordinator. Take the discharge notes with you.

How much donor hair can safely be taken, and what reserve should remain?

The permanent donor zone is the hair at the back and sides that resists pattern loss. Capacity is not a follicle count per square centimetre on its own. Hair calibre, curl, the contrast between hair and scalp, and how much of that zone may later be exposed all belong in the written plan. Taking more than that zone can thin the donor area and make the small round FUE marks easier to see. A high graft slogan does not measure the reserve that is left. Why is FUE, an implanter pen, or another approach being proposed?

ISHRS treats taking tissue from the donor area and making the recipient sites as separate surgical steps. FUE describes removing grafts one by one from the back or sides. DHI, or a Choi implanter, describes how a prepared graft is placed. It is not a second operation that replaces FUE. Who will diagnose, design, harvest, make the sites, place the grafts and follow up?

The ISHRS board statement revised on 13 July 2024 says that diagnosis, planning, donor harvesting, hairline design, recipient-site creation, management of medical problems and aftercare are to be done by a licensed physician trained in hair restoration. In some countries a physician assistant or nurse practitioner may work within the limits of that licence and under that physician’s supervision. ISHRS regards a surgical step performed by an unlicensed person as unethical. Graft placement is not a separate bullet in that list, so the written plan still has to name who places the grafts. Can my existing hair shed temporarily after a transplant?

Yes. ISHRS describes temporary “shock loss” (telogen effluvium) in which existing, non-transplanted hairs may shed after a hair transplant; it can make the area look thinner for a time. This is different from the temporary shedding of transplanted hairs that can happen before later growth begins. ISHRS says the native-hair shedding is typically temporary, but this does not predict what will happen in an individual case.
