What a ladies hair transplant package is
A hair transplant for ladies still uses follicular unit extraction: grafts come from the donor at the back and sides of the scalp and are placed where thinning is stable enough to hold them. Female loss is often a Ludwig-type widening of the parting or a drop in density through the mid-scalp, not a receding M-shape. Recipient sites are commonly opened with a sapphire blade so the channels stay small around existing hairs. That is FUE with a finer slit, not a different kind of follicle.
The written offer from your treating hospital or clinic should confirm the scope for this women's hair-transplant package: the session named on your written plan. A graft can carry one to four hairs. There is no unlimited graft promise at a fixed fee. Who extracts and who implants belongs on the paper, not in a slogan.
Who this package is for
Surgeons usually consider adult women with a usable donor and a patch that will still look natural once surrounding hair is accounted for: traction thinning at the temples after years of tight styles or extensions, a stable female-pattern zone, or a scar that can take grafts. Diffuse shedding that is still running, untreated thyroid or iron problems, recent childbirth with telogen still settling, or a donor that is already thin will often pause the plan. Transplanting into an active medical cause wastes the donor.
Send daylight photographs — front, the parting from above, the crown and the donor at the back — without filters, fibres or extra volume at the roots. The remote look is a first estimate. Suitability is confirmed in Istanbul before anyone operates. Eyebrow work is not assumed in this package.
Over-harvesting a female donor to chase a denser parting photograph is refused; that is a clinical limit, not an upsell.
Session, anaesthetic and nights in Istanbul
Plan two to three nights in the city, with room for a fourth if the first wash or flight timing needs it. That window covers the in-person assessment, the session and clearance to fly after the first wash. Seven to ten nights belong to body and face operations, not this one.
The session is usually four to eight hours under local anaesthetic, with or without sedation. A small temple or scar map can be shorter; a wide parting can run longer. This is not a general anaesthetic like a tummy tuck. Discharge is signed by the team — it is not an advertising date.
Recovery after you fly home
The first seven to ten days are scalp care: no gym sweat, no tight ponytail, no scratching, no extensions clipped into the recipient zone. Sleep semi-upright at first if you were shown that. Shock loss in weeks two to four is expected; transplanted hairs often shed before they grow, and neighbouring native hair can thin for a while. New hair is often seen around month three or four. Density builds between six and twelve months. The look matures toward twelve to eighteen months. None of that is a density guarantee.
Red flags after you return — spreading redness, pus, a temperature that persists, pain that is getting worse — mean a local clinician or A&E first, then your coordinator. Take the discharge note with you.
These notes answer questions people raise before they accept a written treatment plan. They describe what that plan should make clear. They are not a promise that any partner hospital uses a particular technique, device or payment arrangement. With your consent, an enquiry may be shared with an authorised healthcare partner.
How much donor hair can safely be taken, and what reserve should remain?
The permanent donor zone is the hair at the back and sides that resists pattern loss. Capacity is not a follicle count per square centimetre on its own. Hair calibre, curl, the contrast between hair and scalp, and how much of that zone may later be exposed all belong in the written plan. Taking more than that zone can thin the donor area and make the small round FUE marks easier to see. A high graft slogan does not measure the reserve that is left. Why is FUE, an implanter pen, or another approach being proposed?
ISHRS treats taking tissue from the donor area and making the recipient sites as separate surgical steps. FUE describes removing grafts one by one from the back or sides. DHI, or a Choi implanter, describes how a prepared graft is placed. It is not a second operation that replaces FUE. The written plan should name the harvest instrument and the placement instrument separately. Source: ISHRS position statement on physician practice.
Who will diagnose, design, harvest, make the sites, place the grafts and follow up?
The ISHRS board statement revised on 13 July 2024 says that diagnosis, planning, donor harvesting, hairline design, recipient-site creation, management of medical problems and aftercare are to be done by a licensed physician trained in hair restoration. In some countries a physician assistant or nurse practitioner may work within the limits of that licence and under that physician’s supervision. ISHRS regards a surgical step performed by an unlicensed person as unethical. Graft placement is not a separate bullet in that list, so the written plan still has to name who places the grafts. Ongoing loss of your own hair does not cancel the transplant, and longer-term medical follow-up should be written down as well. Source: ISHRS position statement on physician practice.
Can existing hair shed after a female hair transplant, as well as the grafts?
Yes. Existing hairs in the recipient area can shed after surgery, separately from expected shedding of transplanted shafts. This is called shock loss; it is often temporary, but already-miniaturised hairs may not fully return. Female-pattern loss may also continue over time, so the treating clinician should explain your individual risk and follow-up plan. Contact the team about new or worrying loss. Example wording from Estethica’s “Warranty Certificate”
The following is an example of wording in a hair-transplant certificate issued by Estethica. The graft-count placeholder is left blank, as it is in the supplied document:
With your consent and acceptance of the operation, your hair transplant operation was performed with ........ grafts and the operation got completed. As long as you fully fulfill all procedures correctly before and after surgery, you will not experience loss of any graft implanted. We guarantee that the number of grafts implanted are accurate and that the implanted hair will grow in a healthy way.
This quotation reproduces Estethica’s document wording and its statement is conditional on following the procedures before and after surgery. It is the issuer’s wording, not a guarantee by Just Clinic Istanbul or an unnamed clinic. It does not show that this certificate is included with, or applies to, any package discussed on this page. The supplied certificate does not state lifetime cover, a refund or free repeat surgery.
