What an eyebrow transplant package is

An eyebrow transplant still uses follicular unit extraction. Grafts come from a scalp donor — often the nape or the hair around the ears — and are seated along the brow rather than into a hairline or crown. The angle is the whole point: eyebrow hair lies almost flat to the skin, so each unit has to follow the arch, the peak and the taper of the tail. Single-hair grafts are usual at the outer third; a slightly fuller unit may sit at the head of the brow if the written plan says so.

The written offer from your treating hospital or clinic should confirm the scope for this eyebrow package: the session named on your written plan. Transplanted brow hair is living scalp hair. It grows longer than native eyebrow hair and needs trimming. There is no unlimited graft promise at a fixed fee. Who extracts and who implants belongs on the paper, not in a slogan.

Who this package is for

Surgeons usually consider adults with gaps after years of overplucking, a scar through the brow, a burn or injury, or thinning after a dermatologist has ruled out active alopecia areata. Men with a naturally broken or scarred brow are candidates on the same terms. A racing autoimmune loss, an infected follicle field, or an arch that only exists in a filtered photograph will often pause the plan. Microblading and tint hide the true gaps; they are not a substitute for a donor that can actually support the map.

Send daylight photographs of both brows at rest — close and from a little further back — with no pencil, tint, fibres or filters. The remote look is a first estimate. Suitability is confirmed in Istanbul before anyone operates. A scalp hair session or a beard sitting is not assumed in this package.

Loading a scalp-sized harvest into a brow to chase a photograph is refused; that is a clinical limit, not an upsell.

Session, anaesthetic and nights in Istanbul

Plan two nights in the city, with room for a third if the first wash or flight timing needs it. That window covers the in-person assessment, the eyebrow sitting and clearance to fly after the first wash. A week of hotel nights belongs to body and face operations, not this one.

The sitting is usually a morning or an afternoon under local anaesthetic, with or without sedation. It is shorter than a full scalp FUE map because the brow is a small field and each angle is placed slowly. This is not a general anaesthetic like a tummy tuck. Discharge is signed by the team — it is not an advertising date.

Recovery after you fly home

The first seven to ten days are brow care: no gym sweat on the grafts, no picking crusts, no rubbing with a towel. Sleep so the brow is not pressed into the pillow if you were shown that. Shock loss in the following weeks is expected; transplanted hairs often shed before they grow. Do not pluck, wax or thread the transplanted brow until the team’s timetable says you may. New hair is often seen around month three or four. The brow look matures toward eight to twelve months. None of that is a density guarantee. Because the donor is scalp hair, you will trim the brow as it grows.

Red flags after you return — spreading redness, pus, a temperature that persists, pain that is getting worse — mean a local clinician or A&E first, then your coordinator. Take the discharge note with you.

How much donor hair can safely be taken, and what reserve should remain?

The permanent donor zone is the hair at the back and sides that resists pattern loss. Capacity is not a follicle count per square centimetre on its own. Hair calibre, curl, the contrast between hair and scalp, and how much of that zone may later be exposed all belong in the written plan. Taking more than that zone can thin the donor area and make the small round FUE marks easier to see. A high graft slogan does not measure the reserve that is left. Why is FUE, an implanter pen, or another approach being proposed?

ISHRS treats taking tissue from the donor area and making the recipient sites as separate surgical steps. FUE describes removing grafts one by one from the back or sides. DHI, or a Choi implanter, describes how a prepared graft is placed. It is not a second operation that replaces FUE. Who will diagnose, design, harvest, make the sites, place the grafts and follow up?

The ISHRS board statement revised on 13 July 2024 says that diagnosis, planning, donor harvesting, hairline design, recipient-site creation, management of medical problems and aftercare are to be done by a licensed physician trained in hair restoration. In some countries a physician assistant or nurse practitioner may work within the limits of that licence and under that physician’s supervision. ISHRS regards a surgical step performed by an unlicensed person as unethical. Graft placement is not a separate bullet in that list, so the written plan still has to name who places the grafts. Will I need to style transplanted eyebrow hairs as well as trim them?

Possibly. Transplanted scalp hair may keep growing like scalp hair, so trimming can be needed. Some grafts may also need training with gel or wax to help them lie flat like eyebrow hair. Grooming needs vary with donor texture and the final direction and angle. Wait until your treating clinician says the area has healed enough before using styling products, and ask what routine is likely for your design. ISHRS eyebrow-restoration guidance.
