What an otoplasty package is

Otoplasty — pinnaplasty, prominent-ear correction — sets the ear closer to the head by reshaping cartilage, usually through a cut behind the ear. Sutures may fold the antihelix, set the concha back, or both, as drawn on the day. It is not a facelift, not an earlobe repair after heavy earrings unless that paper names it, and not a child’s school-holiday sitting sold as an adult stay. A millimetre-perfect match between the two sides is not promised at a fixed fee.

The written plan should confirm whether one or both ears are treated and the anaesthetic arrangement. Who operates belongs on the paper, not in a slogan.

Who this package is for

Surgeons usually consider adults whose ears stand out from the head, who will wear a headband as shown, and who can accept a fine scar in the crease behind the ear. One side or both can sit on the same plan. Soft cartilage that still folds easily is a different map from a stiff adult ear that needs more scoring. An ear that has already been operated on is a revision, not this first sitting unless named.

The date is often postponed if an infection is active, if the team has asked you to stop smoking, or if a long-term condition makes anaesthetic less safe. Send daylight photographs — front, both profiles and from behind — hair tucked so both ears show, no filter. Suitability is confirmed in Istanbul before anyone operates. Rhinoplasty or a facelift in the same anaesthetic is not assumed.

What sits outside this figure

Theatre, anaesthetic and nights in Istanbul

Plan four to six nights in the city. That window covers the in-person assessment, the sitting, the first headband check and clearance to fly. Three nights is tight if a dressing change falls late. Seven to ten nights belong to a facelift, not this ear stay. Leave room for an extra night if the team asks.

Theatre time follows the written plan: one ear is shorter than both. Adults are often under local anaesthetic; a general anaesthetic sits in this stay only if that paper names it. This is not a lunch-hour clinic appointment. Discharge is signed by the surgeon — it is not an advertising date.

Recovery after you fly home

Wear the headband as shown, including at night if you were told to. No gym, no contact sport, no earphones that crush the fold, no sleeping on the ear until the team clears it. Bruising and tightness are expected; the ear is not the day-three photograph. Desk work is often possible after several days if the surgeon agrees. The scar sits behind the ear and fades over months. None of that is a millimetre-match guarantee.

Red flags after you return — spreading redness, pus, a temperature that persists, sudden pain on one side, or a fold that looks sharply kinked — mean a local clinician or A&E first, then your coordinator. Take the discharge note with you.

If vision changes, the eye will not close, the face becomes weak, or a haematoma develops after I go home, what happens and who pays?

The symptoms that need review without delay depend on the operation. After a face, neck, brow or temple lift: rapidly growing swelling on one side, pain, breathlessness or new facial weakness. After eyelid surgery: a lid that will not close, severe pain, an eye being pushed forward, or reduced vision. After facial fat injection: sudden loss of vision. ASPS lists blindness among eyelid-surgery risks, while describing it as very rare. A significant haematoma is treated by evacuation, as described above. Fat in a vessel needs emergency eye assessment. The NHS asks people to settle in writing, before cosmetic surgery abroad, where reviews happen, what further surgery and a return journey cost, and whether the clinic’s insurance covers the patient. Travel insurance usually does not cover surgical complications. Follow-up after an operation in the UK is the surgeon’s responsibility. A clinic abroad may not offer the same follow-up or a doctor in your own country. The NHS uses 7–10 days after facial cosmetic surgery as a planning window before flying, because of clot risk. Does ear pinning affect hearing?

For the standard ear-pinning operation described here, otoplasty should not change hearing: it reshapes the outer ear and does not alter hearing. Cleveland Clinic patient guidance says otoplasty does not change or improve hearing. If you have a hearing change, recurrent ear infection or another ear problem, raise it before surgery so it can be assessed separately.
