What a breast reduction package is

Breast reduction — reduction mammoplasty — removes breast tissue and usually spare skin, then reshapes what remains. The nipple and areola are often moved to a higher point on the new mound. It is not an implant, not liposuction of the chest on its own, and not a lift that leaves the same volume in a tighter envelope. Grams and cup size are not promised at a fixed fee. The scar pattern — around the areola, a vertical line, or an inverted-T (anchor) in the crease — belongs on the written plan.

The written offer from your treating hospital or clinic should confirm the scope for this reduction package: the surgery named on your written plan, a hospital night, hotel nights around the first bra checks, transfers, and an English-speaking coordinator. Who operates belongs on the paper, not in a slogan.

Who this package is for

Surgeons usually consider adults with heavy breasts that strain the neck, shoulders or back, that cut grooves under bra straps, or that stay moist and sore under the fold. Volume left after weight loss can be the same problem. A breast that sits low but is not heavy needs a lift, not this stay. Implants sit outside this quote unless they are named on the paper.

The operation is often postponed if another pregnancy is planned soon, if a large weight change is still coming, if the team has asked you to stop smoking, or if a long-term condition makes a long general anaesthetic less safe. Imaging — mammography or ultrasound — follows age and history, not a package name. Send daylight photographs — front and both sides, arms relaxed — without a padded bra or a filter. Suitability is confirmed in Istanbul, standing, before anyone operates.

What sits outside the quote

This package covers breast reduction. Implants, a lift with implants, liposuction of other areas or a second operation are separate scopes unless the provider confirms them in writing. The surgical plan should address the scar pattern and nipple blood supply for the person’s anatomy.

Theatre, anaesthetic and nights in Istanbul

Plan six to eight days in the city. That window covers the in-person assessment, the operation, the hospital night, the first bra checks and clearance to fly. An extra night if the team asks is better than an early flight. Two or three nights belong to outpatient work such as a hair session, not this one. The hospital night sits inside those days; it does not replace them.

Theatre is under general anaesthetic. Time in theatre follows the scar pattern on the written plan — a smaller vertical pattern is shorter than a wide inverted-T with a large tissue removal. Drains go in only if the tissue needs them. Discharge is signed by the surgeon — it is not an advertising date.

Recovery after you fly home

The first week is swelling, tightness and bruising. Wear the surgical bra as shown; no gym, no lifting children or heavy bags, no sleeping on your front until the team clears it. Desk work is often possible at one to two weeks if the surgeon agrees. The gym and heavy lifting wait, commonly four to six weeks. Scars are pink at first and fade over twelve to eighteen months. Nipple sensation can rise or drop; most of that settles, but not always. Breastfeeding may still be possible. It is not guaranteed. None of that is a cup-size promise.

Red flags after you return — spreading redness, pus, a temperature that persists, sudden swelling on one side, pain that is getting worse, or breathlessness — mean a local clinician or A&E first, then your coordinator. Take the discharge note with you.

If a wound problem appears after I go home, who follows it and which costs are whose?

The NHS asks people having cosmetic surgery abroad to settle in advance where reviews happen and what further surgery and a return journey cost. Travel insurance usually does not cover surgical complications. The NHS uses 5–7 days after breast surgery as a planning window before flying. Your own surgeon gives the personal clearance. Can a surgeon guarantee that I will be a B cup or C cup after breast reduction?

No. A surgeon can discuss a reduction goal, but bra cup labels vary between brands and the final size depends on your starting anatomy, tissue distribution, skin and safe surgical limits. Ask what shape and approximate volume are realistic for you, and how the plan balances that goal with nipple blood supply, sensation and healing. How much breast tissue can safely be removed?

There is no single safe amount for everyone. The surgeon plans removal around your breast dimensions, composition, desired reduction and personal preferences, while considering the nipple’s blood and nerve supply. A larger reduction can change which techniques are feasible and may affect sensation or breastfeeding. Ask the surgeon to explain the proposed amount and the limits imposed by your anatomy. Will I lose nipple sensation after breast reduction?

Sensation may be reduced, changed or lost, temporarily or permanently; some people regain sensation as healing progresses. The risk varies with the technique and individual anatomy. Ask how the planned method preserves the nipple’s nerve and blood supply, and discuss what a free-nipple graft would mean if it became necessary. Can breast tissue grow again after weight gain or pregnancy?

Yes. Breast size can change after surgery, including with weight gain, pregnancy and breastfeeding, so the reduction may not keep the same size or shape for life. Stable weight and discussing future pregnancy plans can help set expectations, but they cannot prevent every later change. Ask how these factors could affect your expected result and timing. What happens to breast-reduction scars over one or two years?

Breast-reduction scars are permanent, but they often fade over time. Some remain thick or obvious, and their final appearance varies between people and between sides. The pattern depends on the operation and your skin’s healing. Follow the surgeon’s wound-care advice and ask when scar review or treatment is appropriate for you.
